"Stem Locomotive"

18"X24"

Watercolor on Paper

This painting asks the question of ‘why steam engines?’ These locomotives occupy a unique status in the public eye. They are so loved that their memory is impressed upon future generations through media like “Tomas the Tank Engine.” Wagons pulled by horses were contemporaneous to these machines, yet they do not enjoy the same space in the hearts and minds of most people.  What is it about steam locomotives that retains a lasting meaning?
